Take a holiday in Bali for a slice of beach heaven

Holidays in Bali conjure an undisputed beach lover's paradise. This stunning, sun-drenched Indonesian isle features eye-popping coastlines, ideal conditions for water sports, and opportunities to explore the local culture and history.

Whether you prefer to soak up the buzz of the most popular areas or escape to a secluded tranquil haven, Bali is always an excellent choice.

Where to go on holidays in Bali

Kuta Beach - Located in South Bali, this is by far the most popular destination, with superb facilities and gorgeous coastlines.

North Bali - The ideal spot for a more relaxed and secluded island beach experience, away from the crowds.

Central Bali - Head inland for a different look of Bali in this region, with splendid mountain vistas and grand temples to visit.

East Bali - Stroll among the peaceful fishing villages and take in the sights of the mighty Mount Agung.

When is the best time to visit Bali?

The weather in Bali is pleasantly warm year-round, with temperatures in the mid 20s to 30°C and above. This is a destination popular with families, couples, and groups alike. July and August tend to be the busiest periods, as well as the Christmas and Easter holidays. If you visit during the period from April to June or September, you'll avoid the wet winter weather, and find lower rates and fewer crowds.

With plenty of sunshine and enviably high temperatures through the year, there's never really a bad time to visit.

Exploring the culture of Bali on holiday

Home to tens of thousands of temples and a unique history within Indonesia, Bali is a fascinating place to soak up a totally different culture. Although Indonesia is predominantly Muslim, the locals on Bali are mostly Hindu.

Many of the greatest temples are inland, such as the magnificent Taman Ayun, which is painted in a vivid orange-red colour and sits among palatial gardens. Near Kuta Beach, you'll find many excellent temples, such as Desa Kuta, which shows off the local flair for sculpture and architecture. Bali is also well known for its excellent bars and nightclubs.

Staying safe on Bali holidays

Bali is very well provisioned for international visitors and enjoys a generally safe reputation. Take common sense precautions, especially when going out at night, and plan to travel in groups and know how you're getting home. Bali is officially malaria-free, although mosquitoes can carry dengue fever and so precautions are recommended. Mosquito repellent is generally sufficient within built-up areas, and wearing long-sleeved clothing will help in rural zones, including with jungle trekking.

That said, the risk remains low in Bali. You'll notice many locals stay away from the beaches until shortly before dusk due to the very strong sun, so take heed and cover up if you're out during the day.
