About your stay

Once you have landed in New Zealand, you're just going to want to rest and try to ditch that jet lag asap. That is why we have included a night at the 3* ibis Auckland Airport before your epic road trip. It is a few minutes walk from the arrivals gate and offers you somewhere comfortable to rest your head for a night.

On your first morning you will then be able to pick up your camper van which comes with everything you'll need for a comfy stay. The living area transforms into a bed. There are other campers available with more facilities/ space. Jucy also offer a number of add ons such as extra facilities and insurance. These can be added to your booking easily.

You will be travelling during the Kiwi winter, however, you can expect weather that's a lot nicer than home or simply fly out during Oct- Feb for the best beach weather.

Where to go

Below we have pointed some highlights in New Zealand's North Island. Note that if you'd prefer to keep costs down there are a number of 'DoC land sites'. Here, you can park up and camp out for a small donation (some are completely free - make sure you swat up on their locations before departing).

The locations listed by no means have to be done in order, or at all! This is your road trip, you make the rules!

Auckland

You'll land in the bustling city of Auckland, so why not make it stop no. 1 on your itinerary? Often mistaken as NZ's capital, Auckland has a range of sights to see including the Sky Tower and Mt Eden - a dormant volcano on top of which you get the most amazing views.

Waipu Cove and Langs Beach

Heading up north on State Highway 1 these two tiny beach towns are often missed off most NZ tourist's 'to do' lists. However, they both boast stunning white sandy beaches that are often deserted as well as great surf and some awe inspiring views across the bay.

Bay of Islands, Pahia and Cape Reinga

A big draw for tourists due to the regular dolphin visitors, the Bay of Islands and surrounding area has a lot to offer tourists. Take a boat our to see if you can spot pods of dolphins or orcas, drive into the historic Kauri forests or - for some higher octane fun - there's always a jet sky tour of the bay! A 'must see' is the iconic lighthouse up at Cape Reinga, the most northern point of NZ where you can also witness the coming together of the Tasman Sea and Pacific ocean.

Journey to the south of North Island to the country's capital. Also known as the windy city, Wellington is the gateway to the South Island if you wish to extend your NZ trip. You can get a ferry across to Picton and enjoy views of the Cook Strait.

Back in Wellington, this trendy city has a laid back, bohemian vibe. Hipster cafes sell what is arguably some of the best coffee in NZ whilst vintage boutique stores display unique wares. Just outside of Wellington lies the Wetta Workshops, where many of Hollywood's blockbusters create their special effects and CGI scenes - a must visit for all you movie buffs out there!
