Hanoi is one of Vietnam's bustling central points. With countless local vendors selling all manner of wears, loads of street food stalls (including some of the best Banh Mi in the whole of the city) all within walking distance within Hanoi's Old Quarter, you'll never run out of things to see and do.
There are also plenty of opportunities to venture out of the city and see the sights of northern Vietnam. Halong Bay is just a 3 hour drive away and there are many companies around that offer boat tours and overnight cruises around the UNESCO site!
Da Nang/ Hoi An
Known for it's long stretches of beaches and great bar scene, Da Nang is a fast growing city just over an hours flight south of Hanoi.
Located 30 minutes taxi ride south of Da Nang lies Hoi An. Made famous by its night markets this small town really comes to life after sun down. Traditional lanterns hang from every building illuminating the streets, people send candles in paper boats down the river giving the area a magical feeling. During the day the markets are still open, or you could take advantage of being close to the coast, hire a bike and ride to the beach for some R&R!
Ho Chi Minh City
Also known as Old Saigon, this city in southern Vietnam is home to plenty of tourist attractions, mainly centred around the Vietnam war - including tunnels that both civilians and soldiers used to hide from American helicopters.
Not ready to come home?
We have given you a generous amount of time visiting the highlights of each area, however, if you would like to extend your trip this is possible by booking flights to other destinations. Have a look at our flight finder to find great rates to a number of awesome destinations.
Travelling by one's self can be a daunting prospect at first, however, it can also be a liberating experience. If you have never done it before, Vietnam is one of the safest places in south east Asia in order to start your solo adventure. Our top tip is to use common sense in all aspects of your trip when it comes to money, expensive items and walking alone at night. There are a great many solo travellers making their way through this part of the world so there will be plenty of chances to meet new people.
