What is Port Lockroy at all?

This is a historic polar station located on Goudier Island in the Palmer Archipelago. From 1944 to 1962 it served as a British research centre. After restoration, it has been operating as a "living" museum since 1996. Since then, more and more people visit it, and the station gives you the opportunity to learn about work and life in Antarctica. Research here includes the impact of tourism on the local colony of white-browed penguins. Fortunately, no adverse effects were found and the penguins are doing well! If you want to read more about work and life in Port Lockroy, take a look at the facilities website and blog here. You can also follow on Instagram, watch out for penguins (and other animals)!
