Pirates, we have put together a list of the cheapest countries in the world for organizing a trip, whether it is staying in hostels or in starred hotels, these countries will cost you very little!
For a second, let's forget the restrictions currently in place and maybe catapult ourselves towards the later months of 2021, when, hopefully, we can return to travel freely.
The 10 countries listed below offer a daily budget of less than £30 per day, (sometimes much less) which includes at least 3 regular meals, accommodation and land travel within the country; all the bare minimum a tourist needs.
The ranking is drawn up on the basis of our personal travel experiences and the destinations are arranged in random order; not from the cheapest up.
We're sure there are countries where costs are even less than those listed but we have chosen countries with a fair flow of tourists and therefore with good organisation and hospitality.
Whether you are in a metropolis or in the middle of nowhere, India is still one of the cheapest countries ever and, if we think about what it offers and the not too expensive flights to reach it, you can take a long vacation spending less than if you were to stay at home! We found trains, accommodation and meals all to be really cheap!
You will immerse yourself in a world very different from ours, with amazing local cuisine at very low prices and every trip bringing an unforgettable adventure, with stunning landscapes. Georgia is undoubtedly the most coveted emerging low-cost destination in Eastern Europe!
If you are not opting for an all inclusive holiday, but rather for a backpacking trip, Egypt offers really low prices for simple accommodation, (excellent) food from the street or in local restaurants and flights, buses and trains at great prices. The Nile, Aswan, Abu Simbel, Luxor and the Valley of the Kings, as well as the Pyramids of Giza are things you will not see them if you confine yourself to a resort on the Red Sea!
In Bali the prices for accommodation and food are also not high at all so if you are visiting Bali you can also expect to spend little. Bali is simply stunning and will for sure be a holiday to remember!
Tanzania and the island of Zanzibar are very very cheap and at the same time, they are well-equipped for tourism. Here the only thing that will be expensive is the Safari, which the country offers in TOP locations on the continent such as in the Mount Kilimanjaro area or at the Serengeti and Ngorongoro National Parks. However, food and accommodation are really cheap.
Istanbul may require a little more for accommodation but, leaving the big city, accommodation prices drop and you will also find cheap food throughout the country! The excellent bus network, even if a little old and slow, but cheap, will allow you to visit various parts of the country.
One of the cheapest countries in Asia but it certainly has a lot to offer. Much cheaper than neighbouring Thailand and Vietnam, where western tourism has now developed more. Angkor Wat will cost you little to visit, also thanks to the prices of the hotels in Siem Reap, where you can stay in a luxurious 4 or 5 star hotel with breakfast for only £10/15 per night!
In Europe to find the lowest prices, you have to go east. Ukraine is easily accessible from the UK thanks to low-cost airlines and is a candidate as a new tourist destination in Eastern Europe! Even in Kiev accommodation is cheap, if we compare it with other European capitals and the rich food available in local restaurants is not expensive at all!
In Venezuela or Bolivia people probably spend even less, but our personal experience in Colombia really surprised us! Cheap internal bus or plane travel, varied, sublime and very cheap local food and, Cartagena aside, accommodation is very cheap everywhere! The fruit is great and almost free it's that cheap and even a night out, topped off with a few glasses of rum or local beer, will cost you next to nothing!
If you want to spend a nice low-cost holiday abroad, Albania may be for you! It offers dishes such as fish and shellfish, at unbelievable prices!
