We here at Pirate HQ realize that our days are filled with a lot of negative news these days, so we're here to bring you the best of the positive stories of the past week.
The news from China has been taking a positive turn in recent days, they have recorded no new cases in the last few days and are loosening their rules on lockdowns and quarantines to reflect this. Doctors on the Chinese front line have volunteered to fly to other Corona hotspots around the world to offer their knowledge and services to fight the virus.
Not on the menu:
One theory of the origin of COVID-19 is that it came from a wild meat market. In light of this, China has now passed a law banning the consumption of wild animals. Great news for this guy ...
Australia is recovering:
With the newspapers filled with Corona related news, it's easy to forget about the horrendous bushfires that ravaged Australia in the beginning of 2020, wiping out many native plants, trees and flowers as well as putting wildlife at serious risk of endangerment. However, now the fires have been fully extinguished, green shoots can be spotted breaking through the layers of ash left behind, the air is once again filled with the sounds of insects and wild birds. This fast recovery by Mother Nature just goes to show that there is always light at the end of dark times!
Happy you're home:
With the increased rates of people working from home, the first to benefit have been our four-legged-friends. Although, some have taken it to the extreme, like Rolo from Essex. His owner, Rachel, had noticed that he wasn't his normal waggy-tailed self. Turns out Rolo was so happy about the extra quality time that he sprained his tail wagging it too much. Poor Rolo, luckily, he has since made a full recovery!
Applause of appreciation:
To show appreciation for our incredibly hard working NHS staff and other key workers, there will be a nationwide applause held at 8pm tonight. The Clap for our Carers campaign will see thousands throw open their front doors and applaud the efforts of key workers in these unprecedented times. Similar movements have already taken place in Italy and Spain, a wonderful exhibition of appreciation for those on the frontline of this crisis.
You alright petal?
On the subject of NHS staff, last Sunday saw many supermarkets threw open their doors early for key workers and supermarket employees so they could gather supplies for their families. Many, upon their exit, were also gifted a bunch of flowers from stores. Also, many stores surprised mothers working on Mother's day a lovely bunch of flowers as a sign of appreciation.
Who took the dogs home?
Battersea Dog's Home has seen a wave of adoptions ... for example in the last week more than 150 animals were adopted - over double than the week previous. Although a good time to have adopted a pet since - especially if you're working from home, remember a dog / cat is for life, not just for lockdown. Even though these numbers lift our spirits and get our tails wagging, there are still so many fur babies out there looking for a forever home. Checkout the Battersea Dog's Home website for your future friend for life.
