Another day another sweep of cancelled holiday plans due to the coronavirus outbreak. Jet2 were forced to cancel all flights to Spain and turn around at least 5 planes MID FLIGHT as mainland Spain as well as the surrounding islands were put on lockdown.
The Canary islands as well as Majorca, Ibiza and Menorca which form the Balearic Islands are also included in the lockdown, as well as mainland Spain which includes popular holiday destinations such as Malaga, Alicante and Benidorm.
The 15-day lockdown comes after coronavirus cases went up by a third to a whopping 5,753 cases overnight. Tourists are being told to stay indoors and bars, restaurants, shops and beaches are closed.
Jet2 flies from 9 UK airports to many Spanish destinations was forced to cancel all flights with immediate effect, even one's that were almost at their Spanish destination.
Following Jet2's announcement, TUI then cancelled all flights and holidays to Spain, with flights to Malta, Tunisia, Sri Lanka and Cyprus also effected.
