Bahrain has become the latest country to launch a digital covid vaccine passport.
Those who have had the jab will get an official vaccination certificate two weeks after being vaccinated with two doses, according to The Independent.
The certificate will be logged on the country's BeAware app along with the user’s personal details, including which vaccine was received and when.
The app also has a QR code linked to the national vaccine register.
Several countries including Denmark, Greece, Cyprus and others are looking at similar schemes.
However, the UK is not currently planning a similar scheme but government ministers have confirmed that certificates will likely be available if needed for travel.
Vaccines minister Nadhim Zahawi said on BBC’s Breakfast on Tuesday (16 February), that the government is looking at vaccine certification for those travelling internationally, but not for use in the UK.
“Internationally, if other countries will require vaccination certificates, then I think it is right that we facilitate it,” he said.
