Pirates, you know we prefer rum as our drink of choice when we're sailing the high seas. But after spotting this tequila hotel in Mexico, we might just be ready to switch it up....
At the unusual Matices Hotel de Barricas, tequila-loving travellers can stay in giant barrels located in the agave fields. It is located just outside of the Mexican village of - you guessed it - Tequila.
Tequila ages and becomes more even more beautiful after being in a barrel overnight - and you could do the same. The idea is that the guests follow the maturation process of the famous drink.
The barrels might not look like much on the outside, but luxury comes in many forms! Each barrel contains a plush king-sized bed and a rain shower, with magnificent views stretching out across the fields.
The hotel isn't just a gimmick, either; it's the only hotel located on a working farm and distillery, surrounded by all the authentic features of a real argave harvest. Guests can embark on night tours of the site, visit distilleries, harvest algarve and distill their own tequila as a token of their time in the hotel.
In other words, this resort is pretty much a tequila lover's paradise; not a site for constant boozing, but a fascinating place to enjoy the sounds, smells and sights of the processes which go into this one little tipple.
It might seem a bit unusual, but as the old saying goes - it's better to be somebody's shot of tequila than everybody's cup of tea.
