Why is the cruise so cheap? Most large cruise ships leave Europe during the winter to chase the sunshine, and Costa Smeralda is no different.

The ship is sailing anyway, so the cruise lines sell cabins onboard for a big discount, as they might as well try and make a bit of money. Costa Smeralda goes around Africa and heads to Dubai for the winter and then comes back in the spring.
