This deal hack started with a colleague saying that she would love to go to Hawaii, but the flights are always so expensive, it just wasn't feasible. A quick google showed that flights are around £1,000+ per person, most of which already require at least one layover on the West Coast of the USA.

Recently, we've run some cheap direct flights to San Francisco, and we often see cheap flights to Hawaii from there, so why not pair them together? The best part is that this hack is totally flexible.

First, you'll book direct return flights to San Francisco for two weeks. Next, you'll book flights to Hawaii for a week from San Fran. Our flight examples will give you one week in California and one week in Hawaii from £581* per person. This price is for flights only, so you'll still have to research where you'd like to stay. We've given you two example dates, but this hack is easy to mix and match dates that work for you.

Step two: Book your flights to Hawaii

Example date: 17th - 24th January, 2023

Example date: 23rd - 29th March, 2023*

*Note - there is no hand luggage with this particular flight, but you can easily add it when you go to book.

Step three: Book your accommodation

Don't forget to book your accommodation! Both Hawaii and San Francisco can be expensive places to stay. That's why we suggest doing a little research on which island you'd like to visit before booking your flights. Our example flights are for Honolulu, as there are some cheaper accommodation options on Oahu in comparison to other islands like Maui and Kauai.

We recommend staying away from Airbnb, as their extra fees in the States are incredibly high. Instead, look to Booking.com or Trivago for a hotel to fit your needs.

Other Options

While in California, we highly recommend checking out Yosemite National Park. Take a look at our guide to know more about our experience there.
