Take advantage of these cheap direct flights to China and tick this off your travel hit-list ✔️
Pirates, here’s a new one to tick off your travel bucket list: Zhangjiajie National Park. The tall peaks in this park were the inspiration for Pandora from Avatar.
Now… how do we get there? Good question. We've put together a simple guide below including flight routes and rail options. Plus, we've scoped out hotels that we think are great value for your trip.
The first option is to fly straight from London Heathrow to Zhangjiajie with a stopover in Beijing. We found flights with Air China from £531 return.
This is the easiest option to get you there if you only want to explore that area. It's worth noting that the return flight has a pretty hefty stopover.
Example date: 4 - 19 March 2024
If you're interested in seeing more of China, we found direct flights to Shanghai from London from under £400 return. This is a great price as the fare also includes checked luggage, similar priced fares with alternative airlines didn't include this.
Shanghai itself is well worth a visit, of course. You can see the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, museums, temples, take a walk along The Bund and even take a food tour. We would suggest spending a few nights here to explore the city, but it's also a good base to move on to Zhangjiajie.
Example booking: 14 - 22 November
From Shanghai, you have a few options to get to Zhangjiajie.
✈️ The quickest way is to take a direct flight to Zhangjiajie airport, which takes around three hours and costs about £70 one-way.
🚅 Another option is to take the train. The best train option is a bullet train to Changsha which takes around five hours and then taking another train to Zhangjiajie which takes around four hours.
There are lots of daily trains available and prices can vary.
From the airport, you can take various buses to Zhangjiajie National Park or you can take a taxi which will cost a bit more, but if you're in a group this will save time.
Prices in central Shanghai can be a bit pricier, but we have seen a 4-star hotel close to the centre from £61 per night.
We found various options for different budgets in Zhangjiajie starting from £11 a night.
There are budget hotels and hostels available if you want to keep the cost down or are travelling solo:
This 5-star resort hotel has a huge indoor pool. It's still a great price at under £50 a night.
We might be Pirates, but we’re an honest bunch. We check all our deals when we review them to make sure everything is available. Here’s the catch: with deals this hot, things change quickly: flight prices fluctuate, hotel rooms sell out, currencies yo-yo. Mainly, demand for the best deals means the lowest prices don’t last long. But, if you’ve missed out this time, don’t worry: we’re working on more great offers.
