Trip of a lifetime | Great for solo travellers | Save £100s on your flight compared to other dates & airlines
Pirates, we've spotted crazy cheap flights to Costa Rica from £373 at the end of January, so we decided to put together an itinerary to give you all the inspiration you need for a spontaneous, epic new year trip.
The flights are direct from London to Liberia in the north of the country, flying with TUI on 31 January, which is the dry season in Costa Rica, with average temperatures of 30C.
Is there a catch? These flights are pretty last minute. But who wants to stick around for winter in the UK anyway? If there was ever a time for some last-minute spontaneity, then this would be it... Plus, we've taken on the hard job of planning your route, so all you need to do is book!
We recommend hiring a car to make getting around easier. You can do this trip by bus, but for less travel time and more convenience, we would recommend sorting your own transport.
Days 1-4: La Fortuna
Drive 3 hours from Liberia to La Fortuna, an area in the northern lowlands surrounded by rain forests, famous for the Arenal Volcano and Lake. It's one of the most popular destinations, and it is a great place to kick off your journey.
There's lots to do here, from canyoning, to visiting the hot springs, but the main attraction is the Volcano hike.
Days 5-7: Monteverde
Monteverde is where you will find the incredible cloud forest. This area is known for its ziplining through the forest canopies, and it is also a great region for hiking.
Days 8-11: Santa Teresa and surrounding beaches
Time to hit up the beaches! Santa Teresa is a laid-back beach town known for its chilled beaches, including Mal Pais and Playa Carmen. It attracts surfers and people who are after a relaxed vibe.
Days 12-15: Playas del Coco
Head to the Playas del Coco, a small fishing village in the North Pacific, to relax for your last few days. It's a water-sports hotspot surrounded by palm-lined beaches. It's also just an hour's drive from Liberia, so on your last day you can drop off the car and hop on your flight home.
Alternatively, if you wanted to chill the whole time, you can head straight from Liberia to the coast for a leisurely beach holiday. No judgement here!

We might be Pirates, but we’re an honest bunch. We check all our deals when we review them to make sure everything is available. Here’s the catch: with deals this hot, things change quickly: flight prices fluctuate, hotel rooms sell out, currencies yo-yo. Mainly, demand for the best deals means the lowest prices don’t last long. But, if you’ve missed out this time, don’t worry: we’re working on more great offers.
