Qantas introduces *neighbour-free* seats so you can have an empty seat next to you

You can now pay to have the seat next to you be empty!

If, like us, you don't like people, especially when you're on a plane, then perhaps Qantas might be the airline for you as they are introducing a new “Neighbour Free” option with “extra space and comfort when travelling in economy”.

With prices starting from as little as $30 (£16), you can have the seat next to you be empty.

Obviously, there are numerous ifs and buts attached to this, but how nice to be able to spread out.

How will it work?

Passengers on eligible flights will be sent an email 48 hours before they’re due to fly, giving them the opportunity to book the seat next to them.

The additional space cannot be used for infants up to the age of two (who would otherwise be travelling on an adult’s lap) or any baggage, with Qantas stating the upgrade covers “the personal seat space only”.

It won't be confirmed until you are at the gate and even then, you might lose the empty seat next to you even when you get on board if the crew need to sit someone there. Qantas has said that if this scenerio, travellers would be refunded if the had paid for a Neighbour-Free seat.

At the moment, these seats are only available on select domestic flights in Australia but the airline is planning to roll out the scheme to international flights in the future.
