We get it – we give London departures a LOT of attention. It's all Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted… Heck, even Luton (and who wants to fly from there?). We've decided to branch out and look north of the border.

So, (drum roll) here are eight places you can fly to from Edinburgh for less than £40*, return. Prices start from just £19.

Pirate note: Flight prices fluctuate all the time. We try to stay on top of it, but it's not easy. Some of the prices below may have changed by the time you read this.

Check out our selection below with prices from £19, return

1) Riga

Don't let the Latvian capital's prime-and-proper city-of-culture day vibe fool you. It's a bit of a wild child comes nighttime.

2) Copenhagen

Denmark was ranked number two in the latest list of the world's happiest countries. That's a full 15 places ahead of the UK. Maybe there's something we can learn there?

3) Vienna

Is the Austrian city full of highbrow stuff like palaces, operas, museums and fine-art collections? Yes. Does that make it boring? Hell, no.

4) Hamburg

Yes, it's the place where The Beatles perfected their craft. Yes, it has a seedy underbelly. Yes, you should go because it's a really, really cool city.

5) Gdańsk

Gdańsk plays second (or third) fiddle to Warsaw and Krakow. It shouldn't. Expect historic buildings, cobbled streets and beaches (yes, beaches!). But, don't go for a swim in February.

6) Dublin

There's more to the city than Temple Bar, the pubs and the Guinness Storehouse. But let's be honest, do we really care about those other things?

7) Bologna

Italy's culinary capital is known locally as "La Grassa" – the fat one – because of its rich cuisine. Say no more.

8) Marseille

Like Hamburg, Marseille comes with a reputation. But, the biggest risk you run going there is a sunburn and a Pastis-induced hangover.

Additional Information

*We might be Pirates, but we’re an honest bunch. We check all our deals when we review them to make sure everything is available. Here’s the catch: with deals this hot, things change quickly. Flight prices fluctuate, hotel rooms sell out, currencies yo-yo. Mainly, demand for the best deals means the lowest prices don’t last long. But, if you’ve missed out this time, don’t worry: we’re working on more great offers.
