The Luxembourg extreme day trip example itinerary 🏰
08:50 AM | Touchdown & Tram
Step off your Ryanair flight, walk straight out of the airport, and hop onto the free T1 Tram. Ride it for about 25 minutes to the Hamilius stop right in the city centre.
09:30 AM | Coffee & The Upper City (Ville Haute)
Grab a quick espresso and a pastry at a café near Place d'Armes, the city's main square. Take a short stroll over to see the Grand Ducal Palace (the official residence of the Grand Duke) and weave through the cobblestone streets of the Old Town.
11:00 AM | The "Most Beautiful Balcony in Europe"
Walk over to the Chemin de la Corniche. This pedestrian promenade winds along the edge of the city's ancient cliffside ramparts, offering absolutely stunning panoramic views of the river gorge below.
11:45 AM | Underground Exploration
Right at the end of the Corniche, you'll find the Bock Casemates. This is a massive network of underground stone tunnels and cannon galleries carved directly into the cliffs in the 17th century. It takes about an hour to explore and costs around €8.
01:00 PM | Descent into the Grund & Lunch
Instead of walking down the steep hills, find the Plateau du Saint-Esprit elevator (it's completely free and built right into the rock). Ride it down to the Grund, the impossibly picturesque village located at the bottom of the gorge along the Alzette River. Stop at a riverside bistro for a hearty lunch and a pint of local Bofferding beer.
03:00 PM | The Glass Elevator
Walk along the river from the Grund to the Pfaffenthal neighbourhood. Here, you'll find the Pfaffenthal Lift, a massive glass-bottomed panoramic elevator. Ride it back up to the top of the cliff. The views on the way up are spectacular (and terrifying if you hate heights).
04:00 PM | The Pétrusse Valley Parks
Now that you are back in the Upper City, take a stroll through the Pétrusse Valley parks. These parklands are built into the old fortress moat and are incredibly lush and peaceful in April.
05:30 PM | Pre-Flight Dinner & Drinks
Head back into the Old Town centre. Treat yourself to a proper sit-down dinner. If you want to try something traditionally Luxembourgish, look for Judd mat Gaardebounen (smoked collar of pork with broad beans), or just grab a great wood-fired pizza.
07:45 PM | The Free Ride Home
Walk back to the Hamilius tram stop and catch the T1 Tram back to the airport. You'll arrive at Findel Airport by 8:15 PM, giving you plenty of time to clear security before your 9:45 PM flight back to London Stansted.
We might be pirates, but we’re an honest bunch. We check all our deals when we review them to make sure everything is available. However, with deals this hot, things change quickly—flight prices fluctuate, hotel rooms sell out, currencies yo-yo. But mainly, demand for the best deals means the lowest prices don’t last long. If you’ve missed out this time, don’t worry, we’re working on more great offers.
