November and December are the sweet spot for Bangkok, as the cool, dry season kicks in with sunny skies, lighter humidity and daytime highs around 28C to 32C. It is comfortable weather for temple-hopping, river cruises and long afternoons grazing your way through the street food stalls, with minimal rain to disrupt your plans. Hainan is a full service airline, so checked luggage is included and you will not be caught out by surprise fees at the gate.

With 13 days you have time well beyond the city itself, though the Grand Palace complex (4.2/5 on TripAdvisor) and the reclining Buddha at Wat Pho are an easy place to start. Base yourself near the Chao Phraya River and you can hop the ferries between the old royal quarter, the floating markets and the rooftop bars that light up at dusk, including a certain sky bar that featured in a well-known Hollywood comedy about a stag do gone wrong.
