12-hour Venice Itinerary

• 11:30 AM: The Grand Entrance. Skip the boring land bus and hop on the Alilaguna water bus directly from the airport pier. It’s the best way to arrive, passing historic palaces and islands for a fraction of the cost of a private taxi.

• 1:00 PM: Head straight to St Mark’s Square to tick off the Basilica and Doge’s Palace before the mid-afternoon rush. It’s the heart of the city and looks even better in the spring sunshine

• 2:30 PM: Wander into the Cannaregio district to eat like a local. Grab a few Venetian 'cicchetti' (small tapas-style snacks) and a €2 glass of wine from the canal-side bars.

• 4:30 PM: Rialto Views. Cross the world-famous Rialto Bridge for the perfect photo of the city's main waterway, then get lost in the winding backstreets of San Polo to find the city's best artisan gelato

• 7:30 PM: Finish your day in the Zattere area for a final wood-fired pizza and an Aperol Spritz. It’s the sunniest spot in the city for sunset before you catch the express bus back to the airport.
