A weekend in a fairy-tale town with some of France's most festive Christmas markets! 🎄🇫🇷💞

Colmar is said to be the inspiration for Beauty and the Beast AND it's located in France's Alsace wine region, so you know you're in for a treat when you go to visit. Colmar is a year-round destination, but is particularly popular in the winter due to it being home to some of France's most festive Christmas markets.

Well-rated accommodation in this fairy-tale town is usually at least £250 a night in December, but we've found one just out of the centre from £72 a night just outside of town. You'll need a hire car to do the 40-minute drive from Basel (the nearest airport) to Colmar anyway, so we think the short distance from town is definitely worth the hefty saving.

🚨 According to the Colmar tourism site, at least two of the six Christmas markets in and around Colmar start at the end of November. You should be in the festive mood if you're going to visit this town from 26 November onwards. 🎅

Other Options

You can also fly to Strasbourg, which is 50 minutes away by car. However it's usually more expensive than flying to Basel. ‼🚗 Alternatively, it's only a 10-hour drive from London, which may sound crazy to some, but imagine how much cheese and wine you can bring back in the boot. 🧀🍷 Plus, it means you wouldn't have to hire a car to get to and around the town.
