We have found this impressive lodge that's nestled in the Sossusvlei area of the Namib Desert. Le Mirage Resort & Spa is a unique castle resort, and is the closest you'll get to staying among the highest dunes in the world. It is rated 4.5/5 on Tripadvisor, with rave reviews about the incredible staff, attentive service, tasty food and uniqueness of the stay.

This hotel is definitely on the pricier side, usually charging £250+ a night, but we've found some dates for £214. This price does include half-board, so you'll be covered for breakfast and a luxurious dinner every night of your stay! We definitely think it's worth the money for such a special experience.

Details

The resort is set 21km from the Sesriem Gate, which is the main access point for all tourists wanting to visit the Namib-Naukluft National Park. This National Park is the main tourist attraction of Sossusvlei and is home to the highest dunes in the world.

On the days that guests are not exploring the nearby National Park, they'll find everything they need on site. Their Mystique Spa has massages and other beauty & relaxation treatments available for guests, as well as a Jacuzzi.

Their restaurant serves a 5-course dinner most evenings (the courses are specially selected and are different each night). On the rare occasion that the 5-course dinner isn't served, an equally delicious buffet is prepared in its place.

Guests can also arrange all their activities through the hotel. Guests can opt for a Sossusvlei or nature drive, a quad-bike tour or hot air balloon ride... talk about bucket list experiences!

The most impressive thing about the hotel, though, is undoubtedly the rooms. There are less than 30 rooms at this lodge. There are three room types and no matter which room type you choose, you'll be given a spacious bedroom with an open bathroom. The rooms in the Oasis building (the main Castle) have their own private balcony, so you can gaze at the national park from the comfort of your own bedroom.

If you opt for the open-air tower rooms, then you'll be really going for a unique experience, given that there are only two rooms of this type. You can spend the entire evening gazing at the stars and be woken up naturally by the sunlight, if you're lucky enough to find availability! Understandably, these rooms sell out the fastest.

Additional Information

Not that you need any more persuading, but we've found some great rates throughout December, as well as a few in November. Trivago suggests going with Booking.com for £254, but to get the royal treatment from £214 a night, just choose the "lowest price" option. For this price, you'll stay in their Camelthorn Double Room on a half-board basis.

Other dates at £214:

The best way to get to Le Mirage Resort & Spa is flying direct from London City Airport to Windhoek Airport. These flights usually cost around £800 return, but it depends on the time of year. Due to the remote location of the hotel, it is then a 5-hour car journey from the airport. If you hire a car, you can park at the hotel for free, or speak to the hotel about organising a transfer.

*We might be Pirates, but we’re an honest bunch. We check all our deals when we review them to make sure everything is available. Here’s the catch: with deals this hot, things change quickly: flight prices fluctuate, hotel rooms sell out, currencies yo-yo. Mainly, demand for the best deals means the lowest prices don’t last long. But, if you’ve missed out this time, don’t worry: we’re working on more great offers.
