Colourful fairy-tale town in France: vibrant in summer and magical in winter 🇫🇷💞

Colmar is said to be the inspiration for Beauty and the Beast AND it's located in France's Alsace wine region, so you know you're in for a treat when you go to visit. Well-rated 3-stars in this fairy-tale town can reach £120 a night in June, but we've found one just out of the centre from £50 a night. Alternatively, you can go in winter from £45.

It looks stunning in summer, with its colourful houses, and it's home to some of France's most festive Christmas markets. Plus, between September–November (aka grape harvest time), the vineyards take on warm autumnal colours so it's a great period to go wine tasting, making Colmar a year-round destination.

The nearest airport is Basel, which is a 40-minute drive, or you can try Strasbourg, a 50-minute drive from Colmar. Check out flights using the search function below.

Alternatively, it's only a 10-hour drive from London, which may sound crazy to some, but imagine how much cheese and wine you can bring back in the boot. 🧀🍷 Plus, it means you wouldn't have to hire a car to get to and around the town.

⚠️ According to the Colmar tourism site, at least two of the six Christmas markets in and around Colmar start at the end of November. You should be in the festive mood if you're going to visit this town from 26 November onwards. 🎅
