You have to fly to a different island and get a ferry there
From £57 per night
I actually had to think for a while about whether I should even reveal this little secret. Because for me, Ikaria is one of those Greek islands that you'd really prefer to keep to yourself: much more authentic than Rhodes, much quieter than Kos – and even in the height of summer, it still feels far removed from the feeling that every other Instagram tourist has already been there.
Ikaria is different. Not polished, not overly styled, not optimised for quick holiday experiences. In many places, the island seems as if time has simply stood still: mountain villages, winding roads, wild bays, simple tavernas, and a rhythm of life where no-one seems to be in a real hurry.
🏨 Accommodation: stay near one of the island's most beautiful beaches, from £57 per night including breakfast, at the Daidalos Hotel.
✈️ Getting there: it's a bit more complicated, but that's probably what makes Ikaria so special. The most practical way is usually to fly to Samos and then take the ferry to Ikaria. Important: There are several ferry ports on both Samos and Ikaria – so you should check exactly where your ferry departs from and arrives. Depending on flight and ferry schedules, an overnight stay on Samos may be necessary.
