In search for a winter sun break that wouldn't break the bank, we found this 5-night stay in a 3-star hotel, rated 4.5/5 on Tripadvisor, for £174* total including breakfast.

To really understand why this is such good value, in peak summer the same holiday would cost you £300+, so you're almost saving 50%. It's also £35* a night, including breakfast, so that's £17.50 a night per person - a hostel stay in some cities might cost this much!

The hotel is located in a beautiful square near the harbour, complete with a pretty church, in the old town of Puerto de la Cruz in northern Tenerife. There are a number of beaches within walking distance as well as plenty of bars and restaurants.

The hotel isn't your standard chain hotel, it's a family home that turned into a hotel in 1883, and it's full of character. Rooms are simple, comfortable and cosy and the main restaurant has a bar and a terrace outside.
