At that price, certainly yes
From £29 per night
No point shying away from the obvious: head to the Lake District in January and it's going to be cold and, most probably, rainy. But, as long as you pack some warm clothes, good walking shoes and your waterproofs, it's actually not a bad time to go.
You won't have to deal with the aggravation of the summer crowds. The scenery is just as stunning in winter (potentially even more so, if you're lucky enough to get a dusting of snow). That pint after a long walk will taste even better by a roaring fire. And you'll pay a lot less for your hotel.
There are many good options out there, but we found rates from £29* per night at the Travelodge Penrith. Granted, that rate is only available on one night (22 January), but the whole of January is available for £48* per night or less. You'll be 10 minutes' drive from Ullswater and about 20 minutes from Derwentwater.
Like all Travelodge hotels, it's a no-frills, budget option. But, it gets good reviews on Tripadvisor — and you can't go wrong if you're just looking for a bed for the night after a day of exploring.

*We might be Pirates, but we’re an honest bunch. We check all our deals when we review them to make sure everything is available. However, with deals this hot, things change quickly—flight prices fluctuate, hotel rooms sell out, currencies yo-yo. But mainly, demand for the best deals means the lowest prices don’t last long. If you’ve missed out this time, don’t worry, we’re working on more great offers.
