Perfect for anyone with an adventurous spirit, a brand-new ferry service is launching on 10 September.

SailLink provides a cross-channel ferry service aboard it's sailing yacht, specifically for foot passengers, cyclists and small groups. It could also be the only truly sustainable ferry service, since it will be largely powered by wind and electric propulsion if necessary.

The vessel will carry 12 passengers max, who can choose to pitch in and help with the sailing or simply chill out and enjoy the journey.

Prices for a one-way trip from Dover to Boulogne-sur-Mer are £85, or £150 return - a competitive price considering the epic sailing experience you get!

Details

SailLink was founded by Andrew Simons, a boatbuilder, sailor and environmental scientist. Andrew created the company in the hope it could “provide a sustainable means of transport where there is currently none”.

SailLink are conducting a pilot phase between 10-18 September to test the success of its first route between Dover and Boulogne-sur-Mer. The crossing time of 3-4 hours is comparable to conventional ferry companies, if you include the procedural faff before and after.

Prices for the pilot phase are £85 for an adult one-way, £150 for a return. For children, it's £30 one way or £110 return. For bikes, it's £15 one way or £25 return (please note, there is a maximum of 2 bikes per crossing).

If the pilot phase goes well, SailLink could well open up additional routes, with a second route from Ramsgate to Dunkirk in 2024 and a challenge route from Newhaven to Dieppe in 2025.

SailLink also hope to design a custom build high-performance vessel, that's suited to the needs of their passengers, once they understand better exactly what they are.
