How about this for something a bit different: a self-drive Ireland tour, which covers car hire and six nights at great hotels, including castles, from £349 per person. This is up to £178 cheaper than trying to package this experience yourself.

Flights are not included, so you'll have to make your own way to Dublin Airport to pick up your car hire.

Once behind the wheel, you'll drive about an hour to Cavan for a 1-night stay at 18th-century Cabra Castle. In the area, you can go on a walk along the River Shannon or visit the Cavan lakes.

The next day, you'll drive about two and a half hours to Lough Eske Castle in County Donegal where you'll spend the night. This 5-star hotel is in a beautiful spot, set within 43 acres of grounds on the shores of Lough Eske and with the Blue Stack Mountains in the background.

The next stop is Roscommon (two and a half hours on the road) where you'll spend two nights at the Abbey Hotel. During your stay, we recommend checking out Strokestown Park, the National Famine Museum, the ancient Arigna Mines and Lough Allen.

You'll then drive back to Meath in the Dublin area (around one hour and 45 minutes) for a 2-night stay at Dunboyne Castle Hotel & Spa. There, we recommend visiting Slane Castle (and the Slane Distillery), the Hill of Tara and Tayto Park. And obviously, make sure to spend some time in the Irish capital.

Finally, you'll drive back to Dublin Airport to hand back your car hire.

Pirate tip: you can also book an upgraded package that includes entries to various attractions and breakfast at Lough Eske Castle for £50 more per person (see Other Options for more details).

Additional Information

*We might be Pirates, but we’re an honest bunch. We check all our deals when we review them to make sure everything is available. Here’s the catch: with deals this hot, things change quickly. Flight prices fluctuate, hotel rooms sell out, currencies yo-yo. Mainly, demand for the best deals means the lowest prices don’t last long. But, if you’ve missed out this time, don’t worry: we’re working on more great offers.
