Let's be honest, who wouldn't want to drink their way through Scotland? We can't think of a better way to travel through Scotland than with a bottle or two of fine single malt.

From a 5-star whisky train experience to a ride in a whisky barrel, we've found a few different ways to drink yourself through Scotland. Read on to learn more!

Details

Tour Scotland on a luxury whisky train

The Royal Scotland train and the Scotch Malt Whisky Society have teamed up to offer the Scotch Malt Whisky Trail Tour, a 4-night all-inclusive excursion aboard a luxury train with whisky tours and tastings along the way.

The tour starts with a drink at the famous 5-star Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh where you meet your ‘whisky ambassador’ before boarding the train.

During your journey through the picturesque highlands, you will receive private tours of Tomatin, Macallan and Tullibardine distilleries as you partake in single cask tastings.

You'll also experience a visit to Rothiemurchus Estate located in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park. Choose between activities such fishing, clay pigeon shooting, a guided walk or simply relax by the fire.

This train journey is the gift that keeps on giving! At the end of your 4-night tour, you will receive a year's membership to the Scotch Malt Whisky Society.

You might not be surprised to find out that this experience doesn't come cheap. In fact, tickets for this particular tour range from £3,350 to £12,500 per person.

Keep in mind that price is all-inclusive which means your room, board, tours, onboard entertainment and of course all the expensive whisky you can drink is included. When you factor in all the extras, the deal might just be worth it to some.

Definitely a very unique bucket list journey.

For those who aren't willing to spend so much money on a whisky train, we've come up with a few other alternatives that are much better on your wallet.

Hotel and whisky tour

If you're looking to book accomodation and entertainment in one, we've found a great deal that pairs an overnight stay at a 4-star Edinburgh hotel with a fun whisky tour from £119 per person for 1 night or £169 for 2 nights.

Choose between stays at the Hilton Edinburgh Grosvenor, the DoubleTree by Hilton - Queensferry Crossing hotel, the Holiday Inn Edinburgh Intercontinental Hotel or the Novotel Edinburgh Park Accor Hotel. Your stay will include breakfast and tickets to The Scotch Whisky Experience.

Guided Tours

If you happen to already find yourself in Edinburgh and are looking for a more authentic experience at a bargain price, we recommend taking a guided whisky tasting tour with a local tour guide.

Sip and taste whisky at the Waverly pub in Edinburgh as you discuss Scottish history and all things Scotch with the 'Whisky and Folklore' tour. Book through Airbnb experiences from £14 per person.

Take a ride in a whisky barrel where you'll learn all about the history of Scotch whisky as you tour The World's Largest Collection of Scotch Whisky. You'll even get to take home your own tasting glass with this fun guided tour through Getyourguide which has rates from £17 per person.

Full day distillery tours

If you were hoping to journey outside of Edinburgh, then we suggest taking a longer day tour that allows you to visit a distillery or two.

Join a local whisky expert for the day as you visit two distilleries and learn about Scotland's national drink. The tour features private transfer to/from Edinburgh and a stop in one of the most famous lochs in Scotland: Loch Lomond National Park. Tickets from £49 per person.

Of course, if you really wanted to do it as cheaply as possible you could just ride the local train with a 4-pack of beer and call it a day for around £13.
