The journey is the reward—The world's longest train journey
Mateys, today we bring you the longest train connection in the world!
Until now, the longest train route was "only" around 16,898 km long, but thanks to the opening of a new connection in Laos, it now measures an impressive 18,755 km. The journey starts in Lagos in the very south of Portugal and finally ends in Singapore. On the way, it runs through Paris, Moscow, Beijing and Bangkok, among other places.
First things first, train lovers have planned and calculated the hypothetical route. According to their estimates, the longest train journey in the world would take at least 21 days if planned without major stops.

You would have to book several train tickets for this trip and plan a few overnight stays in between, for example in Lisbon, Madrid and Moscow. And this would have to be done DIY-style as well.
However, if you follow the above route, you can also use the stopovers in a targeted manner, especially since you cross around 13 different countries and can do a lot. Spain, France, Poland, Russia, China, Thailand and Malaysia are among those taking part. A trip on the famous Trans-Siberian Railway is also part of the trip!
The journey starts in Lagos in the Algarve
Of course, this adventure on rails not only takes a lot of time, but is also not exactly cheap. The train tickets alone cost around £1,000. There are also costs for overnight stays, visas and much more. A flight would of course be cheaper, easier and above all much faster, but of course that's not what rail enthusiasts are interested in. After all, it's not the destination, it's the journey!
Singapore is the end of the journey
