In great news for holidaymakers, the Green List of countries -- destinations that travellers can go to without quarantining on return -- has now been announced.

The following countries won't require any form of quarantining on return to the UK:

  • Portugal (including the Azores and Madeira)

  • Israel

  • Singapore

  • Australia

  • New Zealand

  • Brunei

  • Iceland

  • Gibraltar

  • Falkland Islands

  • Faroe Islands

  • South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands

  • St Helena, Tristan de Cunha, Ascension Island

The new traffic light system, along with the return of international travel, starts on 17 May.

How the traffic light system will work - if arriving from:

  • Green-list country: pre-departure test and a PCR test on the day after their return, but no self-isolation, quarantine or need to take any other tests provided test result is negative

  • Amber-list country: pre-departure test, isolate for 10 days at home, and get tested on days two and eight when home. These travellers can do a test-and-release from day five

  • Red-list country: pre-departure test followed by a 10-day mandatory hotel quarantine on return. No change to system that has been in place since January

Details

Israel

Israel jumped on the vaccine train very early, and as a result has over 50% of their population fully vaccinated.

Israel has even announced that they are opening their borders in a phased plan for tourism starting at the end of May.

For those looking for a city break with a whole lot of culture why not take a long weekend in Tel Aviv? Much like Barcelona, Tel Aviv is also conveniently located by the sea, allowing for both a city and beach trip in one.

Portugal (including the Azores and Madeira)

Portugal announced that vaccinated Brits or those with a negative test will be admitted from May.

This means that as soon as the travel ban in the UK is lifted, holidays in sunny portugal are a go!

Soaking up culture in Lisbon, wine tasting in Porto, traveling along the sunny Algarve coast, or adventuring to the Azores are all great ways to spend your summer holidays.

Gibraltar

Gibraltar has vaccinated its entire adult population and being largely Covid-free means that it was always likely to appear on the green list.

Enjoy the lovely sunny weather and tax-free shopping in this British Overseas Territory.

Iceland

The beautiful island of Iceland is best-known for the Northern Lights but did you know you can visit year-round?

During spring and summer, the days are longer and warmer and you can enjoy the beautiful green countryside.
