The plan was announced by the Icelandic government at the end of January, indicating that all restrictions wouldn't be removed until mid-March. However, this has now been moved forward to February.

Health Minister Willum Þór Þórsson said the main reason for lifting the restrictions altogether is that the spread of COVID-19 has become so common that the restrictions simply no longer work at this stage. However, it is still encouraged to wear masks and maintain social distancing where necessary.

Travellers to the country will no longer need to present a pre-departure PCR test, nor test or quarantine upon arrival. Also, unvaccinated travellers are welcome to visit.

The only extra step visitors must take to travel to Iceland is the visa requirement, if applicable. Visitors from Great Britain don't need a visa. Read more here.
