Is the party over? Amsterdam plans to ban cannabis for tourists

A lot of places try to encourage more tourists to visit their city, but not Amsterdam, they have the opposite problem with them trying to tame the amount of tourists heading to the capital city.

One thing they are considering, is putting a ban on tourists visiting the many cannabis cafes that Amsterdam has to offer. As we know cannabis is illegal here in the UK, however, you can enjoy it in Amsterdam without breaking the law in coffee shops.

Details

Amsterdam has been trying to cut down the amount of tourists visiting and especially those who end having too much of a good time, misbehaving in their city and becoming a nuisance to the people who live there.

The results of a survey showed that 65% of those surveyed stated that they used cannabis, 57% said they visited Amsterdam mainly for their coffee shops and 1 in 10 people who took part in the survey said they would no longer want to visit Amsterdam if cannabis is banned for tourists.

It remains to be seen whether this ban will go ahead, however, we think Amsterdam still has so much to offer tourists who visit and don't want to visit one of these famous cannabis cafes.

Many places we think are a must-see include Anne Frank's House, the many canals, The Red Light District, The Heineken Experience, The 9 Streets, Van Gogh Museum, Europe’s highest swing, Foodhallen and The Avocado Show (cafe).
