How would you like to spend a year living for free in a small village on the Italian island of Sicily? It's a good plan, isn't it?

Airbnb is looking for a person like you to live rent-free for a year and host guests in a typical Italian house that, after a good renovation, has gone from being in ruins to being a work of design.

Additional Information

Taking advantage of the flexibility of living and working remotely, the selected person will be able to move to Sicily with their family, partner or friend and move into the restored property.

What profile are they looking for?

A person willing to immerse themselves in an international community that has been repopulating the village since 2019. In addition, you can bring your partner or family (maximum two adults and two children in total).

The selected person will have to demonstrate their commitment as a host and their intention to participate in local life, whether that's picking olives, grapes or getting involved in the local community.

What will your "job" be in Sicily?

You will live completely free of charge in a house that has been recently refurbished, and you will only have to receive guests to one of the rooms for nine of the twelve months you will live in the house. You even get to keep anything the Airbnb listing earned while you are there!

What is the name of the village and what is it like?

The village is called Sambuca and is located on the island of Sicily about 80 kilometres from Palermo. It has 6,000 inhabitants and in 2016 it was named the most beautiful village in Italy.

What is the house like?

The traditional three-storey townhouse has been given a proper make-over, with Italian architectural firm Studio Didea creating a contemporary design. The ground floor consists of a small living room and a master bedroom with a king-size bed and an ensuite bathroom.

The first floor has a living room, a kitchen, a work area, a bathroom and a mezzanine bedroom, also with a king bed.

The top floor has another living room with a queen size sofa bed.

The selected person can choose the bedroom that best suits their needs and must advertise the other room on the Airbnb platform.

How to apply?

Those interested in applying should go to airbnb.co.uk/1eurohouse and complete the application form. Before applying it is important to read carefully the Terms of Selection available on the website.

Candidates must be over 18 years old, be available to move to Sambuca on 30 June 2022 for at least 3 consecutive months and have a fluent level of English (speaking Italian is a plus!). The selected person will have the opportunity to be part of an orientation programme: learning Italian and attending Italian cooking classes. Candidates must commit to staying in a room in the house for at least 9 months.

This person will be able to bring their family (maximum two adults and two children), their partner or a friend, and live in the house rent-free. During this time, they will receive all the income derived from their hosting activity on Airbnb.
