Ahoy Pirates,

So you’re the type to charter your own plane when you head off on an international getaway? You avoid large resorts as they just lack a certain exclusivity?

Okay, maybe there aren’t that many of you who have these thoughts when planning your holidays and there are probably even less who are in the financial position to actually act on these thoughts. Either way, we thought we would show you what is available at the highest end of the market. This is one of the most luxurious destinations we’ve ever seen!

In the Maldives, you can rent your very own island to take the relaxation up a notch. The Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi -"Ithaafushi -- The Private Island" opened a couple of years go and has been wowing guests lucky enough to visit ever since!

Details

On the 8 acre island, there is not one but two luxury villas along with a grand main residence. All together there are enough bedrooms to comfortably sleep 24 of your family or closest friends.

What else can you expect on your own island? The villas naturally have both indoor and outdoor rain showers to wash off white sand and saltwater from the turquoise sea. One perches directly over the water and includes a jacuzzi and infinity pool, while the other has direct access to one of the picture-perfect beaches as well as two pools. The grand residence has a further couple of jacuzzis.

And to eat? Well, unsurprisingly you’ll be spoilt for choice! You can either dine on the island courtesy of the dedicated culinary team or head over to the main resort to try one of the 10 restaurants there - some designed by Michelin-starred chefs.

Back to the island - that, by the way, is the largest private island in the Maldives - you can go snorkelling in the crystal clear waters, head out on a private yacht, enjoy a drink at the beach bar in the ocean or relax with a yoga session. A huge LED-screen offers the possibility to enjoy a film night under the stars. Muscles feeling a little tense? Then head to the overwater spa or maybe just hanging enjoying the sea view from one of the hammocks will suffice.

As you can see, if you spend enough, all of your wants and needs will be catered for around the clock in this paradise-like setting. This, as you might expect, doesn’t come cheap though… in fact, it is far from cheap at $80,000 (about £70,000) a night. At that price, unless a lottery win comes up, it is likely to remain just a dream for us all.
