When we checked flight prices to get to Bucharest and back from Sofia, flights were really cheap. So, for our example date, you'd be looking at an overall cost of £762* per person if you were to go in October this year. There are more dates available, though.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Bucharest

• Airport pick-up

• Transfer to the hotel (4-star Inter Business or similar)

• Group activity

Day 2: Bucharest City Tour

• Bucharest city tour, personal time in the afternoon

• Nationa Village Museum (optional), fee (5 EUR)

Day 3: Bucharest, Sinaia, Bran, Brasov

• Drive and visit to Peles Castle, Sinaia (neo-renaissance castle in Carpathian mountains) (entrance fee 8.50 EUR)

• Next stop: Bran Castle (entrance fee 8.50 EUR)

• Drive to Bravos, Transylvania, incl. sightseeing

• Stay at 4-star Hotel Cubix (or similar)

Day 4: Brasov, Sighisoara, Targu Mures, Cluj-Napoca

• Head off to visit Sighisoara after a stop at the Clock Tower (Highlights: Sighisoara Citadel, the Dominican Monastery, The Church on the Hill, Dracula's House)

• Next stop: Targu Mures, a small town, seat of the Transylvanian parliaments since 1500s

• Tour around town to see the Synagogue Quo Ante, Targu Mures citadel and the Culture Square

• Next stop: the unofficial capital of the Transylvania region, Cluj-Napoca, sightseeing

Day 5: Cluj-Napoca, Salina Turda, Hunedeoara, Sibiu

• Visit of the salt mines of Turda (entrance fee 7 EUR)

• Visit Veliko Tarnavo, the City of the Tsars, the historic capital of the Second Bulgarian Empire

• Moving on to Kazanlak, famed for its roses, stop along the Rose Valley and visit a Rose oil factory

• Stay in Plovdiv, Hotel Best Western Premier (or similar)

Day 8: Plovdiv, Sofia
