Mateys, would you live in an eco city on the water on the coast of South Korea? It doesn't exist yet, but on the back of Glasgow's COP26 climate conference Oceanix, UN Habitat and Busan Metropolitan City Republic of Korea have come to an agreement to build the world's first sustainable floating community in the world. Plan is to build it by 2025!

Details

Buildings will be no more than seven stories high to be able to withstand winds and storms, fast-growing bamboo will be used for construction and public outdoor spaces will be shaded, while solar panels will power the city.

Defining features of the project will be communal farming, zero waste and fresh water generation (rainwater harvesting and sea water desalination). Islands surrounding the city will be used for farming and act as a buffer against high waves. Below sea level, floating reefs, seaweed, oysters, mussel, scallop and clam farming clean the water and accelerate the ecosystem regeneration.

The city is planned for 10,000 residents on 75 hectares. Social, recreational and commercial functions are placed around the sheltered inner ring to encourage citizens to gather and move around the village. Residents can easily walk or boat through the city.
