Breaking News: New countries added to the UK's green list
Great news, pirates! The newly updated green list of countries -- destinations that travellers can go to without quarantining on return -- has just been announced via Twitter and we are pretty pleased with the outcome. The change comes into effect from Wednesday 30 June at 4am.
The following countries will be added to the green list and won't require any form of quarantining on return to the UK:
Anguila
Antigua and Barbuda
Balearic islands (Mallorca, Ibiza, Menorca)
Barbados
Bermuda
British Antarctic Territory
British Indian Ocean Territory
British Virgin Islands
Cayman Islands
Dominica
Grenada
Madeira
Malta
Montserrat
Pitcairn Islands
Turks and Caicos Islands
It was also announced that UK residents who are fully vaccinated will not have to isolate when travelling back from amber list countries, however there is no date currently set for when that will be.
The Transport Secretary Tweeted: "Thanks to our successful vaccination programme, our intention is that later in the summer UK residents who are fully vaccinated will not have to isolate when travelling from amber list countries."
Six countries will be moved to the red list, which include Tunisia and Haiti.
Don't forget, these countries currently still on the green list:
Israel
Singapore
Australia
New Zealand
Brunei
Iceland
Gibraltar
Falkland Islands
Faroe Islands
South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands
St Helena, Tristan de Cunha, Ascension Island
How the traffic light system works - if arriving from:
Green-list country: pre-departure test and a PCR test on the day after their return, but no self-isolation, quarantine or need to take any other tests provided test result is negative
Amber-list country: pre-departure test, isolate for 10 days at home, and get tested on days two and eight when home. These travellers can do a test-and-release from day five
Red-list country: pre-departure test followed by a 10-day mandatory hotel quarantine on return. No change to system that has been in place since January
