In a manner untypical for pirates, we're not looking into the rum barrel today, but into the tequila barrel instead. Why? Because we're thrilled that you can spend the night in a luxury barrel hotel in Mexico. Why would you ever want to sleep in a beach bungalow...?

At the unique 5* Matices Hotel de Barricas Hotel, everything fits the concept: you sleep in tequila barrels right next to a tequila brewery in the Mexican city of Tequila. Tequila tastings and guided tours of the facility and the museum are of course offered on site.

Details

The Matices Hotel de Barricas is located next to a Tequila distillery just outside the Mexican town of Tequila - aptly named we believe. It offers tasting sessions and guided tours of the facility and the on-site museum. Most rooms are in old tequila style barrels offering a unique stay.

The luxury barrels are spacious and air-conditioned and equipped with a seating area, coffee maker, minibar, bathroom and terrace with views.

The hotel offers a restaurant with traditional regional cuisine as well as interesting and delicious tequila cocktails and other drinks.

How to get there? The cheapest would be to fly to Puerto Vallarta and rent a car. The drive is around 3-4 hours. If you don't fancy the drive, you can fly to Guadalajara. One way flights are also super cheap.

Nights in a barrel with breakfast can be snapped up for around £150* per night and is available on Trivago!
