I (Mad_Dog_Daniel) have been to both Cambodia and Vietnam and can confirm they are awesome places to visit. If you've not been to SE Asia before, it can be quite a culture shock with the language barrier, heat and general hectic pace of life especially in the cities.

With that in mind, we'd strongly suggest visiting as part of a tour so you can spend more time enjoying the sites and cities with an experienced guide, rather than getting stressed over how to book a train in Vietnamese or get ripped off by a local agent. But you do you.
