In a surprising move, British Airways are launching points only flights. The decision could be influenced by the success of Qantas' 'Points Planes' that has been operating points only flights since 2019.

The new scheme will allow 100% of the seats onboard the plane to be redeemed by British Airways Avios points - as opposed to around 14 usually.

Where will the first BA Avios flight go to?

The first ever Avios-only flight will fly to Sharm El Sheikh from London Gatwick on 3 November 2023. All 162 seats onboard are available for redemption with Avios.

Flights back on the 6th, 8th, 10th, 11th, 13th, 15th, 17th and 18th November will have an increased number of reward seats available too.

Will there be Avios-only flights anywhere else?

Yes, they also plan to fly to Heathrow to Geneva in February and March, coinciding with the ski season.

The outbound dates are: 10 February 2024, 17 February 2024, 24 February 2024 and 2 March 2024.

How do I book a points-only BA flight?

You have to book these direct with British airways, either on their website (you need to be logged into your Executive Club account) or by calling their booking telephone number.
