Brussels could host Eurovision 2023 instead of Ukraine

The Guardian has reported that the European Union is working on a bid to have the 2023 contest hosted in Brussels, after the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) announced that 2022 winner Ukraine cannot host the next Eurovision.

Kalush Orchestra won the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 for Ukraine with the song “Stefania”, however due to the situation in Ukraine, the EBU has confirmed the country will not host Eurovision 2023.

Nothing is confirmed yet, but it has been reported that as well as the possibility of runner-up nation UK hosting the event, Brussels could well host the next Eurovision.

Speculation was mounted when Culture Minister of the Brussels-Wallonia Federation Bénédicte Linard didn’t dismiss the idea of hosting Eurovision in Brussels in 2023.

Eurovision organisers are still in the early stages of discussion and consultation with the BBC, but there are reports that European Union are working on a bid to have Brussels host Eurovision.

If Brussels does host Eurovision on behalf of Ukraine, it could be as a gesture of solidarity from the “capital of the EU”, and an indicator of Ukraine's progression to becoming a full EU member nation.

It is important to note that no one from the EBU, the EU, the Belgian government, VRT or RTBF has commented or confirmed this potential host bid.
