Dune was filmed at Origo Studios in Budapest, Hungary. Filming also took place in Jordan, Norway, and the United Arab Emirates.

Jordan

For over 50 years, the famous Wadi Rum desert in Jordan has appeared on Hollywood screens as an out-of-this-world location. In Dune, Wadi Rum plays the role of the desert areas of the planet Arrakis.

Norway

Several locations were used here:

Caladan—a planet of the Atreides family is the island of Kinn, or locally known as Kinnaklova.

The beach where Paul Atryda watches the last sunset before his trip to Arrakis is Myresanden Beach on the Stadlandet peninsula of the Nordfjord coast.

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

The Rub 'Al Khali Desert, known as the Empty Quarter, and its Liwa oasis, is another backdrop to Arrakis. The film planet is known for its hostile desert wastes along with its lack of water and vegetation.

Budapest, Hungary

Dune was also produced at Origo Studios in Budapest—one of the largest film studios in Europe. The Hungarian government granted film crews, including the Dune crew, permission to enter at a time when the world was closing due to the pandemic. Origo Studios also carried out the films Inferno, A Good Day to Die Hard, and Blade Runner 2049.
