The German government is planning to move ahead with plans to legalise the sale of cannabis.

Legalising and regulating the industry was one of many progressive reforms promised by the new coalition government under Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

There will be five rounds of 'expert testimony' on the topic which is the first step on the road to full legalisation.

Lawmakers will hear from around 200 experts on topics relating to the industry including supply chain and addition issues.

The hope is that the new legislation will be ready before the end of the year.

The social effects of any new legalisation will be assessed after four years.
