Best locations for a holiday in Turkey

First things first, pirates. Deciding where to holiday in Turkey really depends on what you're looking for. As Turkey is well connected to the UK by air, it's an easy destination to get to, with many direct flights from major UK airports to Turkish cities and resorts. This ease of access makes it convenient to get to the destination of your choice without extensive stop-overs or long travel times.

Let's take a look at some of our favourite regions for a holiday in Turkey.

Bodrum

For many, Bodrum is the first port of call for a Turkey holiday. Located on the Aegean coast, the city centre stretches across two bays. Known to locals for its nightlife, Bodrum is the undisputed tourist centre and party mile par excellence. The clubs and discos don't close until dawn. If you're hoping for a quieter holiday outside the hustle and bustle and party people, avoid the city centre and head for one of the nearby bays. Ortakent's long stretch of Yahşi Beach is about 10 kilometres from the harbour area and is much quieter than the immediate Bodrum area. A number of clubs and luxury hotels have sprung up here. There is also no shortage of restaurants and beach bars.

Bodrum itself has plenty to see and do with its amphitheatre and massive medieval fortress. Bus tours to the ancient city of Ephesus and the Pamukkale limestone terraces are also available from Bodrum. Plus, the Greek island of Kos is also a short ferry ride away for those looking for two holidays in one.

🏴‍☠️ Pirate tip: Bodrum is a great off-season destination. There are hardly any rainy days, the water is warm enough for swimming and most of the tourists flock here in the summer, which means there are great deals to be had in the off-season!

Antalya

Antalya is arguably one of the most popular holiday destinations in Turkey, thanks to its blue waters, stunning beaches, historic sites and vibrant nightlife. Situated on the south coast of Turkey, Antalya's long sandy beaches have earned it the name Turkish Riviera. The region offers a wide range of accommodation, from budget hotels to all-inclusive resorts, making it a top choice for a Turkey holiday.

A holiday in this lively metropolis is full of variety: swimming in the Mediterranean, strolling through the old town and shopping are all on the programme for a city break in Antalya. The sandy Lara Beach in the south of the city is perfect for sunbathing, water sports and a refreshing dip in the Mediterranean Sea. Other popular resorts in the area include Side, Belek and Alanya.

🏴‍☠️ Pirate tip: Want to bag a bargain outside the school holidays? Look for dates in the shoulder seasons of autumn and spring. Autumn is especially a good shout with temperatures around 25 degrees and water temperatures around 22 degrees! Say hello to some relaxing beach time away from the summer crowds.

Dalaman

The Dalaman region on the southwest coast of Turkey - known as the Turquoise Coast - is home to Olu Deniz Beach and the famous Blue Lagoon, making it a great choice for a fly-and-flop holiday.

Lively resorts such as Marmaris and Fethiye not only offer entertainment and nightlife, but also incredible value for money. In fact, The Post Office ranked Mamaris second in their list of 15 best value hotspots, offering the best value for money.

🏴‍☠️ Pirate tip: Looking for a little adventure? Adrenaline junkies should head to Olüdeniz for a unique view of the Blue Lagoon. Olüdeniz is one of the best places in Turkey for tandem paragliding and offers incredible views of the beach and lagoon below.
