Non-touristy places to stay

La Orotava📍 You will find many historic buildings that are open for you to visit. It is also one of the most productive winemaking areas, so you should for sure do some wine tasting.

Casa Lercaro is worth a visit. It is a 16th-century property which has been turned into a restaurant and is sometimes used as a film set.

Garachico📍 There are many tours you can do to visit here, or you can go all out and book a stay. The town has been rebuilt after a volcano eruption in 1706, and still looks super traditional. There are natural pools which were formed when the volcanoes lava ran into the sea.

Buenavista Del Norte📍 80% of the area is designated as a nature reserve. Which means there are limited hotels here.

San Cristóbal de La Laguna📍 The UNESCO-listed city is famous for its historic layout. There are many places to get your history hit including filled churches, cathedrals and palaces.

🏴‍☠️ tips

  1. Make sure you pack for both warm and cool weather. It can get chilly at night, especially on the top of Mount Teide.

  2. For hiking, remember to bring some sensible shoes.

  3. Check if you need special permits for your chosen hike, or book an organised tour.

  4. Book any tours you want to do in advance, as spaces can fill up quickly. GetYourGuide offers free cancellation and no prepayment options.

  5. Some places close on Mondays, so check the opening times of the place you want to visit

  6. Tenerife has two airports. You will most likely fly into Tenerife’s South Airport, but check before making further travel plans.
