12 dreamy beach hotels that help save the oceans 🌊🐙

From restoring coral reefs to protecting sea turtles, these hotels are where luxury meets marine conservation.

Oceans do a lot more than just serve up postcard views. They absorb over 90% of the heat from greenhouse gas emissions, regulate global temperatures, feed billions of people and boost our mental wellbeing too. It's time we gave something back.

So here are 12 brilliant hotels where you can go snorkelling, treat yourself to a spa day and also support conservation work. Because these days, real luxury means doing things a bit more consciously.

Jumeirah Thanda Island – Tanzania

This exclusive private island, set in the heart of the Shungimbili Island Marine Reserve, is a protected sanctuary where fishing is banned and biodiversity is closely monitored by a team led by marine biologist Rianne Laan.

Guests can join coral reef restoration projects and get involved in the Whale Shark Citizen Science Programme by helping collect data on marine megafauna.

InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort – Maldives

Tucked away in the Raa Atoll, this resort takes eco-tourism seriously. It works with the on-site Marine Conservation Centre to protect coral reefs and partners with the Manta Trust to help safeguard manta rays.

Pirates can ‘adopt’ a manta and join dives led by marine biologists—definitely a step up from your usual beach day.

Baros Maldives – Maldives

Baros takes eco travel up a notch with its hands-on Eco Explorer programme. Pirates can plant coral, ID fish while snorkelling or discover the island’s glowing bioluminescence with UV lights.

It’s the kind of holiday where you can fully unwind, be amazed by nature and give a little something back too.

4. Ellerman House – Cape Town, South Africa

At Ellerman House, sustainability starts on your plate. Chef Kieran Whyte follows the SASSI ‘traffic light’ system, serving only sustainably sourced fish.

The hotel also supports ethical and fair fishing practices through the Abalobi project, working directly with local fishers. A proper feast with a conscience.

5. Manta Resort – Pemba Island, Tanzania

Famous for its Insta-famous underwater room, The Manta Resort is about more than just good views. A portion of excursion fees goes straight to supporting the local community, and the surrounding marine area has been turned into a no-take zone with help from the Blue Nature Alliance.

A dreamy stay that actually does some good.

6. Beach Enclave – Turks & Caicos

Surrounded by 340 miles of vibrant reef, this resort teams up with the Turks & Caicos Reef Fund to protect marine life. They run educational programmes, support research into coral diseases and even offer symbolic coral adoptions.

Young Pirates can also join in on eco workshops—because it’s never too early to start looking after the planet.

7. Hotel Indigo Bali Seminyak Beach – Indonesia

Right in the heart of lively Seminyak, this hotel is doing its bit to fight plastic pollution by teaming up with Sungai Watch.

Guests can join mangrove clean-up days and help stop plastic from reaching the ocean—one rubbish bag at a time. A great way to see a different side of Bali and make a difference while you're at it.

8. Gaya Island Resort – Borneo, Malesia

The Gaya Island Resort Marine Centre is all about hands-on conservation, with three main missions: rescuing sea turtles, restoring coral reefs and spreading awareness.

Pirates can visit the educational tanks, help plant coral, and even get involved in the latest project—reintroducing seagrass meadows. It’s marine biology meets holiday mode.

9. Quasar Expeditions – Galápagos, Ecuador

Hop aboard one of Quasar Expeditions’ yachts and explore the Galápagos with minimal impact. In partnership with Frente Insular, the tours support local training and donate gear to help protect the islands’ unique marine ecosystems.

It’s a proper adventure—with your conscience clear and your boots (or flippers) on.

10. Six Senses Laamu – Maldives

Not in the original article, but absolutely worth a shout: Six Senses Laamu has its own on-site marine lab working with the Manta Trust and other NGOs to monitor reefs and protect sea turtles.

Guests can join science talks, go on guided dives and even adopt a coral. It's the kind of place where you can top up your tan and your knowledge at the same time.

11. Four Seasons Resort – Oahu, Hawaii

This resort is deeply committed to marine conservation through its partnership with the Ocean Futures Society, founded by Jean-Michel Cousteau.

Expect ocean-friendly snorkelling, hands-on marine life workshops and loads of fun, educational activities for little Pirates too. A proper blend of tropical paradise and ocean advocacy.

12. Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort – Fiji

Founded by the legendary explorer himself, this eco-resort invites Pirates to dive into conservation—literally.

Guests can help restore coral reefs, protect sea turtles and join marine biologist-led excursions that turn every dive into an educational adventure. It's all the ocean magic, with a purpose.
