Brits to be fingerprinted and have faces scanned to enter EU

The EU's post-Brexit Entry/Exit System (EES) - which has been delayed a few times since it was due to launch in 2022 - is due to be live this autumn.

The EU's new Entry/Exit System (EES) is due to launch this autumn - what is it, and how will it affect UK travellers?

The EES is a new digital system which will replace the stamping of passports when you go through passport control on arrival in and out of the EU or Schengen areas.

When the system goes live, you'll need to provide your passport as well as fingerprints and have a photo of your face taken.

If you're an EU or Schengen country citizen, you won't need to provide these. But 'third country' citizens - ie anyone from another country, including the United Kingdom - will have to provide these.

The system is due to launch this autumn and there are fears it will greatly increase processing times at airports, ports and train stations including the Eurostar terminal Kings Cross St Pancras.
