We have put together a list of the destinations that aren't too hot in the summer months, so you can enjoy your trip to the full, minus the sweat patches.
Scotland, cooler than the Med? Who knew! Ok, this one might be obvious, but summer really is a great time to explore Scotland, when your chances of rain are slightly less... but never zero. Stroll through historic cities like Edinburgh, visit Loch Ness and the Isle of Skye and hike through the lush green Highlands. Temperatures rarely rise above 20C.
If you're up for a road trip, the famous North Coast 500 is the ultimate route to take. It's over 500 miles of stunning beaches, rugged coastlines and quint towns.
The summer months here are winter in the Southern Hemisphere, making Argentina and Peru the perfect places to cool off. They're the coldest, but also driest and sunniest months. There will be plenty of wildlife from August onwards, you can see the Iguazú Falls which borders with Brazil.
Also in the Southern Hemisphere, South Africa is in its winter during our summer. June-September are some of the best time to visit if you're not a fan of too much heat. It's known for Safari holiday and the vegetation in the parks and nature reserves is lower than in summer, making it much easier to spot the Big Five. While the temperatures are still pleasant during the day, it can get quite cool at night. In addition, there are not as many travellers in South Africa during this time of year.
Summer in Iceland means slightly warmer temps and almost never ending days with over 18 hours of daylight. That means you can pack in all the activities you want to do. Embrace both fire and ice with cold glaciers, hot thermal springs, enjoy the midnight sun, take a highland tour, and have a high chance of spotting whales.
Canada temperatures obviously depend on which area you visit. If you're a nature lover who wants to see the beautiful ice blue lakes in Banff, you'll find highs of around 22C in July and August, making it pleasant for hiking, but also warm enough to take a little dip. If you have more time over the summer due to school holidays, we would recommend taking a road trip so you can pack more into your trip.
Alaska isn't always freezing, in the summer months, you'll get temps of up to 20C. Plus, the days are long, so you'll get plenty of hours to explore each day. There is so much beauty to discover here and in summer, hiking trails are fully accessible. Another plus is that wild animals, such as whales, bears and eagles, are more likely to be spotted. It's high season, meaning prices will be a bit higher, but you can expect to see all hotels, restaurants and activities open.
Temps in this Northern French area are similar to those in the UK, so you won't get too much of a shock. It's nice enough to sit out in, but not too hot that you can't spend your day exploring. The best part is... it's just a ferry ride away, so you don't even need to take a flight!
