Big news for Europeans! the European Union has proposed a reciprocal mobility agreement with Australia. If approved, Australians could live and work freely across the 27 EU member states, while EU citizens could do the same in Australia — all without needing a job lined up beforehand.
But what about the UK? Unfortunately, UK citizens are not included right now, since the UK is no longer part of the EU. That means Brits will still need visas to live or work in Australia.
While UK citizens might not get visa-free access just yet, the deal shows that Australia is opening up to long-term workers from Europe, and could influence future UK-Australia arrangements.
Here’s what UK travellers can do instead:
👉 Working Holiday Visa – ideal for 18–30-year-olds
👉 Skilled Worker Visa – for certain jobs and qualifications
👉 Temporary or employer-sponsored visas
If you’re UK-based and dreaming of working or living in Australia, now is the perfect time to explore visa options — and keep an eye on any potential new agreements.
