This "miracle" fountain is located along the legendary pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela—specifically in a place called Irache, Navarra.
It’s run by Bodegas Irache, one of the oldest wineries in the region (dating back to 1891!). They’ve kept a centuries-old tradition alive; back in the day, the monks of the nearby monastery would greet weary pilgrims with a glass of wine to keep their spirits up.
In the late 90s, the winery decided to make things official by installing a fountain so pilgrims could serve themselves. Every single day, they fill it with 100 litres of fresh red wine to help walkers on their way. Talk about a motivation boost! 🚶♂️🍷
Here you can see the wine tap in action... if you'd rather refresh yourself with just water, you'll also find a normal (boring) tap at this same fountain 😉

The monks in the 10th century actually considered this wine to be "medicine" for the pilgrims. It was so good that it was even served at the banquets of the Royal Family of Navarra!
Today, around 200,000 pilgrims pass by this spot every year. That is a lot of wine and a lot of happy hikers!
Whether you’re walking the full Camino or just road-tripping through Northern Spain, make sure to add Bodegas Irache to your list. It’s the ultimate budget-friendly pitstop!
Buen Camino, Pirates! 🏴☠️✨
