Pirates, if the idea of logging in from a sun-soaked terrace overlooking the Aegean sea tickles your fancy, Greece has just launched a cracking new programme that might tempt you to pack your bags.
The country’s rolled out a national digital nomad visa with perks aimed at remote workers who fancy swapping the grey skies of Britain for a slower, sunnier lifestyle. There are 2,000 spots up for grabs, and it’s designed for those of us who work online and want to do it somewhere a bit more scenic.
The basics? You can live and work in Greece for 12 months (with the option to renew for up to two years), no need to find a local job. You just need to show a minimum monthly income of €3,500 (a bit more if you’re bringing a partner or little ones), have health insurance and a clean criminal record. You don’t need a Greek employer – just be working remotely for a non-Greek company, or running your own business from afar.
And here’s the cherry on the baklava: new tax residents can get up to 50% off their income tax for seven years. Not bad, eh?
You can base yourself wherever suits – from buzzing Athens and cool Thessaloniki to laid-back spots like Chania, Ioannina, Kalamata or Crete. The only non-negotiable? A decent Wi-Fi connection.

So, Pirates, ready to become a digital nomad and enjoy a slice of Greek island life while you work? 🌞💻
